Hair Loss is quickly becoming a topic of conversation for young people. We see clients coming to our salon as early as their late teens. The truth is that with environmental conditions, food additives, GMOs and water quality we can not just blame genetics anymore. Granted genetics play the largest role in hair loss but all of these other factors are putting young people on the fast track to losing their hair. On the other end of the spectrum we have hormones and stress creating imbalances in our bodies as we age and this is many times a cause of hair loss. So what is the solution?
Hair Loss Solutions:
The only thing any product on the market promises is to stabilize hair loss to keep the hair you have. It is not possible to create more hair follicles to grow hair from. That is why it is so important to start with a solution right away when you notice hair loss. These are some solutions that have helped our clients and some that you should be aware of.
Low Level Light Therapy (Laser)
LLLT is highly effective at treating the weaker, thinner, wispier hair follicles, making each hair noticeably thicker, stronger, and healthier. It’s also great at stabilizing hair loss so you can keep the hair you have. LLLT will only work if there is an active hair follicle. Just as you can not grow new follicles, you can not revive dead follicles. There is currently no treatment that will revive a dead follicle and that is why LLLT is so effective for young people and those who are just starting to lose their hair in order to obtain maximum hair restoration benefits.
Camouflage Products
Our favorite camouflage product to use is Style Edit. There are many color options to choose from and you can use a spray, powder or crayon. Many Clients use Style Edit not only as a camouflage for thinning areas of the scalp but also as a root cover if you need to make it a few extra days before your next color appointment. Style edit is a quick fix but it will not stabilize hair loss or prevent future shedding.This is a great product to use along with other treatments or for special events.
Nutrition for Hair Loss
Advanced Hair Aesthetics is all about nutrition to feed you hair. Toxic ingredients can really affect your healthy hair growth. Eating whole foods, protein both plant based or organic lean meats.
Propecia
Propecia's 1 mg dose of finasteride can effectively lower DHT levels in the scalp by as much as 60% when taken daily. It is DHT that shrinks or miniaturizes the hair follicle, which eventually leads to baldness. This 60% reduction in DHT has proven to stop the progression of hair loss in 86% of men taking the drug during clinical trials. 65% of trial participants had what was considered a substantial increase of hair growth. AHA does not offer this solution but we believe in client’s knowing all options available.
Minoxidil (Rogaine)
While minoxidil has been clinically proven to slow the progression of hair loss and regrow some hair, most experts see it as a relatively marginally effective drug in the fight against hair loss. Since minoxidil has no effect on the hormonal process of hair loss, its positive effects are at best temporary and usually yield somewhat disappointing results.
